We are now here in Bakersfield California, and yet another beautiful Hilton family hotel (Homewood Suites), and was just about to begin writing a quick review of our Las Vegas Hotel (CircusCircus), when I quickly checked the news on Huffington.
Well, since it's my blog, i guess i can write about anything, and so will not resist writing about America's answer to their "oil addiction problem" (G.Bush's words, not mine).
The answer? A government incentive that rivals Germany's solar panel program (currently the biggest in the world)? A federal initiative on Windmills in the vast deserts of California and Nevada? A local cities program to help poorer people buy solar hot water systems for their houses? A global research program, in partnership with other international governments, to find ways of harnessing fission?
Nope: the answer: Dig for more of the stuff.
Forget all the talk about weening the country slowly off of the black stuff. Forget about the plans to increase vehicle fuel mileage requirements to the technically possible. Forget about continuing to question why, in a market of increasing raw material costs (oil), the oil companies are the only businesses in the world that increase their profits in such a situation.
This is truly disappointing for all those who had hoped that the only country in the world big enough and technically advanced enough to actually tackle this problem.
To me, another low point in the Bush legacy!
