Well finally, in nick of time, i've now (just) made our hotel reservation for the next stage of our trip. The hotel is near Palm Springs, and should be a bit nicer (bigger!) than what we have now, at half the price!
It is the Embassy Suites La Quinta. I guess location is indeed very important.
