Drive across I40 on Fumes.

Well today we made our way toward the Grand Canyon.

During an eventful ride from Kingman Arizona across I40 towards Seligman, we noticed that we did not fuel up the vehicle prior to leaving! Expecting to find gas stations every 5-10 Kms maximum like on the Autobahn, we began to worry when we did not even see an exit, let alone a gas station! After worrying, we began to sweat as we thought turning off the A/C would help conserve fuel (yes, it was that close!). I kept checking the distance to the next filling station on my phone via Google-earth (did I mention that mobile flatrate on a phone is great??), only to find that the miles were ticking away painfully slowly..... much slower that kms!

Finally we did make it to a station in Seligman, where i promptly selected the lesser expensive of two stations across the street from each other. (4.34 vs. 4.39)

After filling up the tank with 20.8 gallons, Alessandro quickly checked the handbook to find that the capacity was actually only 20 gallons! We were definately running on fumes.

Chalk it up to experience, and to the fact that fuel tank capacity is not a precise science!!

Une campagne créée par l'agence TBWA pour Amnesty a été jugée un peu
trop brutale par l'ONG. Mais elle fait le tour du web, provoquant la
colère des Chinois.

I actually had the same experience in Arkansas.Left Pine Bluff and took a highway, but not an interstate, with about a quarter of a tank of gas. We drove for miles and miles without seeing a gas station. I finally found a sign for I40 and got on that to get to a gas station. On a side note, after that trip, we bought a cell phone.
